New Creations
Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:17 (ESV)
17 Therefore,
if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold,
the new has come.
Devotion:
Today’s scripture is one that is
meant to encourage us in our walk with the Lord. There is much to be concerned
with in this world right now, but this verse promises us that we are being made
new in Christ. Our whole outlook on life changes. Our outlook does not change
overnight but over time we come to view this world with new eyes. God longs for
us to see the world the way he does. As something that was created and
pronounced “very good,” was spoiled by sin and is now has been redeemed by
Christ’s work on the cross.
We may not see the signs right now
of change in us or in the world, but they are coming. God first will wait until
the full number of the redeemed is accomplished. Then once God is ready the
world will undergo a sudden change. Where every knee will bow to the Lord
either voluntarily or involuntarily. All nature will change, and the world will
return to its pre fall state. A new city of God will descend from the heaven
and redeemed humankind will enter the city rejoicing.
Therefore, we should seek to follow
Christ that we may be changed. When we believe in Christ some things about us
will change instantly. We will lose the desire to continue in some of our
sinful actions. While other things will take time to heal, but God will change
everything in the end. He will make us completely new creations. We will be
holy and fit to serve God in the place he is preparing for us right now.
Let us not be discouraged either by
the sin and evil that rule the earth, or by the sin and evil that seems
to remain in our own hearts. God will make all things right in the end. It is
our duty then to remain faithful until perfection comes. Until the old has
truly passed away. Let us celebrate now the newness of life we have been called
to. Let us spread the good news of the kingdom of our God coming with power and
majesty. Let us call all people to repent of their sin and join us in the
celebration of the new kingdom of God,
Prayer:
Lord God, you make all things new.
May we learn to accept this gift from your hand. Let us live our lives godly
and holy. Help us to celebrate the victory which Christ won for you and your
creation God. Bring us into a state of worship and prayer that never stops, but
always continues to bless you and bless those around us with your steadfast
love. Never leave our side. Help us to live as new creatures in the world that
still suffers the effects of sin and evil. Let us always give glory to You O Lord. Amen.
