Peace, Peace, but there is no peace

Scripture: Jeremiah 6:14–15 (NRSV) 14 They have treated the wound of my people carelessly, saying, “Peace, peace,” when there is no peace. 15 They acted shamefully, they committed abomination; yet they were not ashamed, they did not know how to blush. Meditation:             Today’s generation seems to know little of peace. Governments around the world continue to say they are for peace, but their people know very little but violence and war. We have forgotten how to blush it is true. We murder unborn children by the millions and we feel no shame. When dozens of children are murdered in a school instead of realizing that we are to blame for these innocent deaths we seek to blame others and ban guns.             The only ban on guns that will ever stop violence is if we heed the prophet’s instruction and beat our weapons into plowshares. Until then men and women of unstable mind and heart will continue to act out their rage in unthinkable ways. We must proclaim t

Peace and the Middle East

In today’s world we see violence all around us. Yet we hear false prophets as there were in Elijah’s day saying, “ 10  † For the very reason that they led my people astray, saying, “Peace!” when there was no peace, and that, as one built a wall, they would cover it with whitewash.” People today desire peace and who can blame them. We have been involved in two wars in the Middle East that have lasted over a decade. People in general have lost interest in the reason we originally went to fight in Afghanistan and Iraq. Now we are anxious for peace at any cost.             Well the truth is we have accomplished next to nothing for all the blood and treasure we invested in these wars. The terrorists we sought to fight have simply moved on to places like Somalia and northern Africa. Peace is a difficult thing to achieve when our enemies want us dead. No amount of warfare will ever bring the fighting to an end overseas.             Why is this? It is because our enemies are

Peacemaking

Those who follow my posts know that I have not posted anything in quite a long time. The reason was that I was hearing from God that it was time to take a break for a season. During that time God has been working in my spirit lifting up to me the importance of peacemaking. God through the Holy Spirit has shown me that the real problem behind the violence we see on the news everyday in America and around the world is because people are not at peace with God or their neighbors. In response I feel called to call people to peace with God and with their brothers and sisters all over this world. So I begin today by calling us to peace with God. We will not get very far seeking peace if we are at odds with the One who made the very world we live in. Genesis 3:1–7 (NRSV) 3 Now the serpent was more crafty than any other wild animal that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God say, ‘You shall not eat from any tree in the garden’?” 2  The woman said to the serpent, “We ma
