A Lamentation

Scripture: Lamentation Ch 3:19-24 I’ll never forget the trouble, the utter lostness,          the taste of ashes, the poison I’ve swallowed.          I remember it all—oh, how well I remember—                         the feeling of hitting the bottom.                   But there’s one other thing I remember,                         and remembering, I keep a grip on hope: 22–24  God ’s loyal love couldn’t have run out,                         his merciful love couldn’t have dried up.                   They’re created new every morning.                         How great your faithfulness!                   I’m sticking with God (I say it over and over).                         He’s all I’ve got left. [1] Devotion The days become weeks and there is no relief in sight, O my God. I sit alone and wallow in my pity and loneliness. A great heaviness has descended on me and I cannot bear it alone. I am separated from my friends and evil dogs surround me. Dogs

Philippians 3:12-21

Scripture: Philippians 3:12-21 Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you. Only let us hold true to what we have attained. Brothers join in imitating me and keep your eyes on those who walk according to the example you have in us. For many, of whom I have often told you and now tell you even with tears, walk as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, wh

Good Friday Meditation

Good Friday 2020 Luke 23:38-46 38  There was also an inscription over him, “This is t he King of the Jews.” 39  One of the criminals who were hanged railed at him, saying, “Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!” 40  But the other rebuked him, saying, “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? 41  And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.” 42  And he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” 43  And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” 44  It was now about the sixth hour and there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour, 45  while the sun’s light failed. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. 46  Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” And having said this he breathed his last. Maundy Thursday Meditation

Maundy Thursday Meditation Genesis 3:1-7 Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” 2  And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, 3  but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ” 4  But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5  For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” 6  So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. 7  Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked. Rejoice

Scripture 4:2-9 2  I entreat Euodia and I entreat Syntyche to agree in the Lord. 3  Yes, I ask you also, true companion, help these women, who have labored side by side with me in the gospel together with Clement and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life. 4  Rejoice in the Lord always; again, I will say, rejoice. 5  Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; 6  do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7  And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 8  Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. 9  What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things,

Philippians 3:1-11

Sripture 3:1-11 Finally, my brothers, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you is no trouble to me and is safe for you. 2  Look out for the dogs, look out for the evildoers, look out for those who mutilate the flesh. 3  For we are the circumcision, who worship by the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh— 4  though I myself have reason for confidence in the flesh also. If anyone else thinks he has reason for confidence in the flesh, I have more: 5  circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the law, a Pharisee; 6  as to zeal, a persecutor of the church; as to righteousness under the law, blameless. 7  But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. 8  Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may g

Philippians 2:19-30

Timothy and Epaphroditus 19  I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, so that I too may be cheered by news of you. 20  For I have no one like him, who will be genuinely concerned for your welfare. 21  For they all seek their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ. 22  But you know Timothy’s proven worth, how as a son with a father he has served with me in the gospel. 23  I hope therefore to send him just as soon as I see how it will go with me, 24  and I trust in the Lord that shortly I myself will come also. 25  I have thought it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus my brother and fellow worker and fellow soldier, and your messenger and minister to my need, 26  for he has been longing for you all and has been distressed because you heard that he was ill. 27  Indeed he was ill, near to death. But God had mercy on him, and not only on him but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow. 28  I am the more eager to send him, therefore, that you may rejoice at
