Bring Good News

Scripture: Isaiah 40:9 (NIV)

You who bring good news to Zion, go up on a high mountain. You who bring good news to Jerusalem, lift up your voice with a shout, lift it up, do not be afraid; say to the towns of Judah, “Here is your God!”

Devotion:

Isaiah speaks to God’s people with urgency and hope: “You who bring good news… lift up your voice with a shout.” The message is clear — good news is not meant to be whispered. It is meant to be carried boldly, proclaimed confidently, and shared joyfully. God’s people are not passive recipients of hope; they are active messengers of it.

The prophet calls them to “go up on a high mountain.” In ancient times, the higher the place, the farther the message could travel. Isaiah is telling God’s people to take every opportunity, every platform, every moment to make the good news known. The gospel is not a private treasure; it is a public announcement. It is meant to be seen, heard, and declared.

Then Isaiah adds, “Lift up your voice… do not be afraid.” Fear is one of the greatest enemies of witness. It silences the tongue, shrinks the heart, and convinces believers that someone else will speak. But Isaiah confronts that fear directly. The message we carry is not fragile. It is not uncertain. It is not dependent on our eloquence. It is the good news of God Himself — and that news deserves a fearless voice.

What is the message? “Here is your God!” Not a distant God. Not a silent God. Not a powerless God. The God who comes with strength, who gathers His people like a shepherd, who holds them close, who leads them gently. The good news is not merely that God exists; it is that God comes. He enters our world, our pain, our need, our story. He reveals Himself in grace and truth.

Isaiah’s call reaches into our lives today. We are still the people who bring good news. We carry the message of Christ — His cross, His resurrection, His forgiveness, His presence, His promise. We carry hope into places of despair, light into places of darkness, and truth into places of confusion. And we do it without fear, because the God we proclaim is the God who stands with us.

To bring good news is to lift up Christ. It is to say with confidence, “Here is your God,” and to trust that His presence will do what our words alone cannot. The world needs this message — and God has entrusted it to us.

Prayer:

Father God, help us always to proclaim the news that you are near. Even Isaiah in the Old Testament was able to proclaim that news. Therefore, how much more we, to whom the Messiah has been given, should shout it from the mountaintop that you are near, very near, to each of us. Embolden us even as you emboldened the disciples on the day of Pentecost tor to speak without fear and declare without reservation the news that Jesus Christ is Lord, and we must worship Him as such now. May your people bring you glory, Lord. Amen.
