God Loves His People
Scripture: Deuteronomy 33:1b-3 (NIV)
He said: “The LORD came from Sinai
and dawned over them from Seir; he shone forth from Mount Paran. He came with
myriads of holy ones from the south, from his mountain slopes. Surely it is you
who love the people; all the holy ones are in your
hand. At your feet they all bow down, and from you receive instruction,
Devotion:
As we reflect on Deuteronomy 33:1-3,
we encounter a powerful image of God’s enduring love and faithfulness for His
people. Moses, nearing the end of his life, is blessing Israel and recounting
how the Lord revealed Himself in majesty and glory, coming from Sinai, shining
from Mount Paran, and surrounded by myriads of holy ones. These verses remind
us that God does not remain distant or detached from His beloved children. He
actively pursues, protects, and instructs those whom He loves.
The reference to God “dawning over
them from Seir” and “shining forth from Mount Paran” depicts His presence as a
radiant light guiding Israel through the wilderness. Just as the dawn dispels
darkness, God’s presence brings hope and clarity in our times of uncertainty.
When the path ahead seems unclear or intimidating, we can draw comfort from
knowing that the same God who led Israel is still leading us today. His
guidance never falters, and His love never fails.
Moses emphasizes that “surely it is
you who love the people,” affirming that God’s affection is not generic but
deeply personal. He cherishes each one of us, holding us securely in His hand.
The image of “all the holy ones” being at God’s feet, bowing down and receiving
instruction, speaks to the humility and reverence that God’s presence inspires.
We are reminded that true wisdom and direction come when we posture ourselves
with humility before Him, ready to learn and follow.
In the noise and busyness of life,
it’s easy to forget that God is actively involved in our journey. Deuteronomy
33 beckons us to pause and recognize the loving guidance of our Heavenly
Father. His love is steadfast, His protection is sure, and His instructions are
life-giving. Let us respond by bowing our hearts in worship, seeking His
counsel, and trusting His unfailing love. Just as He was with Israel, so He is
with us—leading, loving, and lighting our way each day.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, may we have the
eyes of our hearts open to realize just how much you love us. Your presence is
always near to us. Help us to be sensitive to it and to rejoice in the fact
that as you walked with the Hebrews in the wilderness you walk with us today.
May we never be afraid or weary for you are our God and you will always be
there to guide, defend, and protect us. Amen.
