Speak the Truth in Love
Scripture:
Ephesians 4:15-16 (NIV)
Instead, speaking
the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of
him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held
together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as
each part does its work.
Devotion:
Paul paints a
vivid picture of the Church as a living body, with Christ as the head and each
believer as a vital part. Emphasize how speaking the truth in love helps you
feel valued and motivated to grow together in faith. Growth in Christ is not
only about knowledge or activity—it’s about relationships rooted in love and
honesty. Truth without love can wound; love without truth can mislead.
Together, they foster an environment where spiritual maturity flourishes.
This passage
reminds us that growth is communal, not solitary. The body “builds itself up”
as each part does its work. That means you matter. Your gifts, service, and
encouragement all contribute to the health of the whole. When one part is
missing or inactive, the body suffers. Conversely, when every part functions as
intended, the Church reflects Christ’s fullness.
Christ is the
source of this unity and growth. We don’t manufacture it through programs or
effort alone; it flows from being connected to Him. As we abide in Christ, His
love binds us together, and His truth shapes our words and actions. This
connection should make you feel hopeful and confident that your participation
fosters genuine unity in Christ.
Today, ask
yourself: Am I speaking the truth in love in my conversations with family,
friends, and church members? Am I doing my part to build up the body? Growth
requires intentionality—choosing honesty over comfort, service over self-interest,
and love over division in my conversations with family, friends, and church
members. When we live this way, the Church becomes a powerful testimony to
Christ’s transforming grace.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for making
me part of Your body. Help me to speak truth with love and to serve faithfully
in the place You’ve called me. Unite us in Your love so that together we
reflect Your glory to the world. Amen.
