We Are the Lord’s

Scripture: Romans 14:7-8 (ESV)

For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s

Devotion:

Life is a tapestry woven with joy and sorrow, laughter and tears. In this intricate design, we find ourselves interconnected, bound by a common purpose. Paul’s words in Romans 14 remind us that our existence transcends individual desires; it points to something greater—the Lord Himself.

Paul declares, “If we live, we live for the Lord.” Our heartbeat syncs with His rhythm. Our waking hours become an offering—an intentional dance of devotion. Every sunrise whispers, “This day belongs to the Lord.” Consider your daily choices: work, relationships, leisure. How can you infuse them with purpose? How can you live for the One who breathed life into you? This sense of purpose in our daily choices guides us and makes our actions intentional.

The paradox deepens: “If we die, we die for the Lord.” Even in our final breaths, we belong to Him. Death loses its sting; it becomes a passage, not an end. We step from this temporal realm into eternity. Reflect on loved ones who have crossed that threshold. How does their legacy inspire you? How can you prepare your heart for that sacred transition?

Paul’s conclusion resounds: “Whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.” Ownership shifts. We’re no longer autonomous beings; we’re cherished possessions. Our identity rests in Him. This truth brings a sense of security and comfort to our faith. How does this truth impact your fears, ambitions, and priorities? How can you surrender more fully to the One who holds your past, present, and future?

As we navigate existence’s twists and turns, remember: We’re part of a grand narrative—a symphony orchestrated by the Lord of life and death. Our days matter. Our choices echo into eternity, underscoring the importance of living a devoted life. Whether we breathe our first or our last, we belong to Him.

Prayer:

Lord, we are yours. Thank you for purchasing our eternal life by your life, death, and resurrection. We can rest in all the promises of the Bible because we have received and responded to your free offer of forgiveness. Let our lips always praise and thank you for the love you extended us while we were still sinners. Glory be to God, Amen.
