Not Forgotten by God

Scripture: Ephesians 6:21 (ESV)

21 So that you also may know how I am and what I am doing, Tychicus the beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord will tell you everything. 22 I have sent him to you for this very purpose, that you may know how we are, and that he may encourage your hearts.

Devotion

We know a lot about a some of the people in the Bible. However, I am afraid that Tychicus escapes our notice. There is a good chance that you have read his name many times if you are a frequent Bible reader and never really stopped to take note of this man. Tychicus is mentioned four additional times in the New Testament books. (Acts 20:4, Colossians 4:7, 2 Timothy 4:12 Titus 3:12) I encourage you to take some time and read what the Bible has to say about Tychicus.

Paul considers him a faithful and trusted fellow minister of the Gospel. Tychicus is often sent bearing letters to the churches Paul was writing to. He must have been someone Paul could rely on as a faithful witness to the Gospel Paul was eager to share with the church. Tychicus was not just an errand boy for Paul. He was to encourage the churches where he was sent. He was commissioned to bring personal greetings from Paul as to his condition and circumstances.

Tychicus never tried to be famous or tried to grab glory for himself. He just was faithful and did each of his assignments to the best of his abilities. We can learn a lot from this man. God has given each of us an assignment to do in this world. We would do well to imitate this seldom heard about soldier in the Lord’s army. We should seek to do the one thing that the Lord has tasked us to do as faithfully as we can. Even if no one on earth ever notices, God knows your faithfulness and you will be rewarded for that faithfulness when you stand before God on the great day of judgement.

There are many others like Tychicus in the pages of scripture. I am sure that there are many more whose names are never recorded for us in scripture. These “forgotten” saints are known only to God were faithful and effective disciples of our Lord spreading the Good News of the Kingdom around the world. When you see an unknown saint going about their daily business of serving the Lord thank them for their service to the kingdom.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father we come to you today giving thanks for the unknown faithful who minister every day in your name. Yet they are unknown to the world at large we pray that they may continue to be your faithful servants and that we may join their ranks if we are not also a forgotten servant of yours. Help us to be the one who is always available for service in the kingdom. May our good works done in the name of Jesus be written in heaven where they will never be lost. Amen.
