Restore Us

Scripture: Psalm 85:4-7  (NIV)

Restore us again, God our Savior, and put away your displeasure toward us. Will you be angry with us forever? Will you prolong your anger through all generations? Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you? Show us your unfailing love, Lord, and grant us your salvation.

Devotion:

In Psalm 85:4-7, the psalmist cries out to God, longing for restoration and renewal. The plea to "restore us again, God our Savior," echoes a deep understanding that only God can heal what is broken and reconcile what has drifted away. The questions that follow— “Will you be angry with us forever? Will you prolong your anger through all generations?”—reveal both humility and hope. They acknowledge God’s righteous displeasure yet trust in His compassion and willingness to forgive.

In our lives, we often experience seasons where our relationship with God feels strained. Whether due to our own choices, hardships, or confusion, we may sense a distance and long for closeness once more. Like the psalmist, we can approach God honestly, bringing our regrets, fears, and hopes before Him. This passage teaches us that God is not only willing but eager to restore us. He desires for His people to rejoice in Him, to experience the fullness of His unfailing love and the assurance of His salvation.

Restoration is not just about returning to what was, but about being revived, made new, and filled with joy in God’s presence. God’s forgiveness and love are offered to each of us, no matter how far we may feel from Him. This invitation to restoration calls us to examine our hearts, confess where we’ve turned away, and trust in God’s mercy to put all things right.

As you reflect on these verses, consider where you need God’s restoring touch today. Pray for renewal, believing that God delights in reviving His people. Let His unfailing love be your confidence, and may the joy of His salvation fill your heart once again.

Prayer:

Lord, we come to you as people who are broken and hurting. Let this psalm be the balm that leads to the healing of our broken hearts and flagging spirits. May we always praise you because you have been so good to us. You know us because you formed us in our mother’s womb and have walked with us through all the trials and temptations we experienced. May you be glorified and praised by all people. Amen
