A Meditation on the Life and Death of Charlie Kirk

Today marks a tragic day in our country. A man was shot and killed simply for sharing his opinions. Charlie Kirk was a vocal leader of the conservative movement among young Americans. He was intelligent, talented, and an effective communicator.

His influence reached well beyond political circles, motivating many to participate and voice their opinions. Charlie's passion for his beliefs and dedication to dialogue gained him respect, even among those who disagreed with him.

Those of you who follow my blog know that I very rarely turn to expressly political subjects to comment upon. This situation, I believe, demands a response. I will strive to be fair to both sides of the political spectrum, focusing my thoughts on what I believe God may say to us through His word.

The Bible, especially in the Old Testament, records many political assassinations. In the New Testament, there is the mostly political trial and death of our Lord Jesus Christ. While the Bible faithfully documents these deaths, it does not boast about the deaths of Old Testament figures. The death and subsequent resurrection of Jesus are celebrated in the New Testament.

Charlie was a devout Christian. His death, while tragic for us, is wonderful for him as he is united with his savior in heaven for eternity. First Corinthians 15:55-57 “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Charlie knows that victory. We feel the sorrow of losing such a great man, an example, and a Christian.

While many try to politicize today’s tragic events, I urge caution and deep prayer during this time. We must not let this cowardly act of violence chill our public debates. Americans of all political backgrounds should feel free to share their opinions as if this event never occurred.

In conclusion, I urge everyone to remain calm. Let’s mourn the life of a man taken from us too soon. We must support his widow and children by giving them the time and space to grieve the loss of their provider and family leader. The rest of us should reflect on our own lives and consider how we can honor the memory of a man like Charlie Kirk.

p.s. Psalms 116:15

15 Precious in the sight of the Lord

is the death of his faithful servants.
