Do Your Best
Scripture: 2 Timothy 2:15 (NIV)
Do your best to present yourself to
God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly
handles the word of truth.
Devotion:
2 Timothy 2:15 is a powerful
exhortation from the apostle Paul to his young protégé, Timothy. In this verse,
Paul urges Timothy to “do your best to present yourself to God as one approved,
a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of
truth.” This message is not only for Timothy, but also for each of us who desires
to live a life pleasing to God.
The phrase “do your best” reminds
us that following Christ requires intentionality and dedication. Our faith
journey isn’t about perfection, but about striving with all our hearts to honor
God in everything we do. God isn’t asking for flawless performance—He’s asking
for our commitment, our diligence, and our willingness to grow. When we do our
best, we acknowledge our dependence on God’s grace and strength, trusting that
He will help us in our weakness.
Paul’s words also highlight the
importance of integrity. A worker who does not need to be ashamed is someone
who lives authentically, both in public and in private. When we approach our
tasks—whether at work, at home, or in ministry—with honesty and excellence, we
reflect the character of Christ to those around us. Our goal is not to seek
approval from people, but to present ourselves as approved before God, whose
opinion matters most.
Finally, the call to “correctly
handle the word of truth” speaks to our responsibility to know and apply God’s
Word faithfully. This involves regular reading, study, and meditation on
Scripture, enabling us to discern truth from error and share it accurately with
others. We are entrusted with the message of the gospel, and we must handle it
with care, ensuring that our lives and words align with God’s truth.
Today, let’s commit to doing our
best—not in our own strength, but through the power of the Holy Spirit. As we
seek to live with integrity and handle God’s Word rightly, may our lives be a
testimony to His grace and truth. Remember, God is not looking for perfection,
but for hearts that earnestly seek Him. May we be found faithful workers,
unashamed and approved in His sight.
Prayer:
Heavenly
Father, let us be diligent in studying your word so that we will be found
blameless in your sight on the day of judgment. May we be committed to always
discerning the truth in your words of scripture. Please help us to be kind to
ourselves when we fail, seeking repentance and restoration from you. Let us
pray to always seek the truth in Your Word. In the name of your blessed son
Jesus, we pray. Amen.
