Perseverance

Scripture: Hebrews 10:36 (NIV)

You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.

Devotion:

In Hebrews 10:36, we read, “You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.” These words were written to believers facing struggle and discouragement, urging them not to give up in the face of adversity. Perseverance isn’t just about enduring hardship; it is the active, hopeful pursuit of God’s purpose, even when the outcome is uncertain or delayed.

God’s promises often require patient endurance. We live in a world that values instant gratification, but God’s ways are different. He shapes our character through seasons of waiting and challenge. Persevering doesn’t mean pretending everything is easy—it means trusting God enough to keep moving forward, believing that what He has promised is worth every step. Each moment we choose faith over despair, hope over resignation, we grow stronger in our relationship with Him.

There are times when doing the will of God feels costly or lonely. Maybe you’re praying for something that hasn’t happened yet, or obeying God in situations that don’t make sense to those around you. In those moments, Hebrews 10:36 reminds us that our perseverance is not in vain. God sees every sacrifice, every tear, and every step you take in faith. He is faithful to fulfill His promises in His perfect timing.

Let this verse encourage you today: do not lose heart. Your perseverance is preparing you to receive all that God has in store. Hold on to His word, press on in faith, and remember that the reward is certain—even if the road is long. God’s promises are sure, and His timing is perfect. In every season, He walks with you, giving you strength to persevere until you see His promises fulfilled.

Prayer:

Lord God Almighty, we confess that we have often given up when faced with opposition. We choose ease over perseverance. Help us, Lord, to be faithful and true to your word. Seeking always to do your will and spread your gospel to all we meet. While we may not see immediate fruit from our way of life and manner of speech. May we be shining lights in this dark and hurting world. Amen.
