More on Charlie Kirk. I promise this will be my last words on this subject
Devotion to John the Baptist and Charlie Kirk
John the Baptist was a man of
unwavering conviction. He spoke truth to power, even when it meant confronting
King Herod about his immoral relationship. His boldness cost him his freedom
and ultimately his life. Yet, John’s death was not in vain — it was a testimony
to the cost of discipleship and the courage of prophetic witness.
In our time, we have witnessed the
tragic death of Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist and founder of
Turning Point USA. Like John, Charlie was a controversial figure who stood firmly
for what he believed, often challenging prevailing cultural norms and political
ideologies. His assassination at a public event has shocked many and sparked
national conversations about political violence, free speech, and the role of
faith in public life.
While John the Baptist was executed
by a ruler trying to silence truth, Charlie Kirk was killed by a lone gunman
during a college tour meant to engage young minds in debate. Both deaths remind
us of the fragility of life and the cost of standing for
conviction in a world that often resists uncomfortable truths.
Parallels and Lessons
1. Boldness in Truth
John and Charlie both spoke boldly, even when it made them unpopular. Their
lives challenge us to ask: Are we willing to talk about truth, even when it
costs us?
2. Faith Over Fear
John feared God more than Herod. Charlie, according to his wife Erika, wanted
to be remembered for his faith and courage. In a culture of fear and
division, their examples call us to live by faith, not by fear.
3. Legacy Beyond Death
John’s legacy paved the way for Jesus. Charlie’s legacy, as his wife said,
lives on in his children and in the movement he helped build. Our lives may be
short, but our impact can be eternal when rooted in God’s purpose.
Prayer
Lord, give us the courage of John the
Baptist and the conviction of those who stand for truth today. Help us to live
boldly, love deeply, and speak truthfully, even when the cost is high. May we
honor the lives of those who have gone before us by living faithfully in our own
time. Amen.
