The Goodness of the Lord

Psalm: 27:13-14 (ESV)

13    I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord

in the land of the living!

14    Wait for the Lord;

be strong, and let your heart take courage;

wait for the Lord!

Devotion:

These verses from Psalm 27 powerfully declare faith and hope. The psalmist's unwavering confidence in seeing the Lord's goodness, even amid trials and tribulations, serves as a beacon of inspiration for us all.

"I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living." This is a bold statement of faith. It's not wishful thinking or a vague hope but a confident expectation. The psalmist will surely experience God's goodness here and now, in the land of the living, in the form of His blessings, His grace, and His love.

The second verse calls us to patience and courage: "Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD." Waiting is often one of the hardest things we do. It requires patience, trust, and courage. But the psalmist's call to wait for the Lord, to be strong and take heart, is a source of encouragement and empowerment for us all.

Why? Because the waiting is worthwhile. God is at work even when we can't see it. His timing is perfect, and His plans are good. So, we can wait confidently, knowing we will see His goodness.

So today, let's echo the psalmist's declaration. Let's remain confident in God's goodness. Let's be strong and take heart as we wait for the Lord. And as we wait, let's keep our eyes open to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living, in the beauty of nature, in the kindness of others, and in the small miracles of everyday life.

Remember, no matter what you're going through, God is good, and His goodness is not limited to the future. It is here and now, in the land of the living. So, wait for the Lord, be strong, and take heart, knowing His goodness is already at work in your life.

Prayer:

            Lord, hear our cry to you to strengthen our faith and hope. May the words of this psalm give us the courage to live for you with our whole hearts. You have been so, so good to us. Help us see and acknowledge that goodness with our words and actions. Grant us the patience and courage to live our lives for you regardless of the circumstances we find ourselves in. Amen.
