Nothing Can Separate Us

Scripture: Romans 8:38-39 (ESV)

38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Devotion:

These verses from Romans powerfully declare God's unshakeable love. The Apostle Paul, who faced numerous trials and tribulations, is convinced that nothing can separate us from God's love.

Paul lists a series of opposites - death and life, angels and demons, the present and the future, powers, height, and depth - to underscore the all-encompassing nature of God's love. It's as if he's saying, "Bring on anything you can think of; nothing can separate us from God's love, a love that surrounds us completely, leaving no room for fear or doubt."

This love is not general, abstract love. It's the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. It's a love demonstrated in Jesus' life, death, and resurrection. It's a love that not only embraces us but also redeems us and transforms us. It's a love that gives us hope and inspires us to be better.

So today, let's take a moment to reflect on this profound truth. Nothing can separate us from God's love, no matter what we're going through - whether it's a season of joy or a season of suffering, whether we're on the mountaintop or in the valley. We understand that it can be challenging to believe in this truth, especially when [insert common struggle]. But even in these moments, God's love remains unshakeable.

Remember, God's love for you is unshakeable. It's not based on your performance or your circumstances. It's based on His character, His faithfulness, His mercy, and His grace. So, rest in His love, live in His love, and share His love with others, knowing that it will never waver or diminish. This unshakeable love is your anchor in the storms of life, providing comfort and reassurance.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, we thank you for these familiar words from Paul in this scripture. Help us not to take them lightly because they are so familiar. May we marvel at your providence and provision, which you have graciously given us. Lord, thank you for showing us your love in so many ways. May we be your grateful servants as we proclaim your love and provision. Amen.
