Desiring God

Scripture: Psalm42:1-2 (NIV)

As the deer pants for streams of water,

so my soul pants for you, my God.

My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.

When can I go and meet with God?

Devotion:

These verses from Psalm 42 express a deep longing for God, a thirst that can only be quenched by His presence. The psalmist illustrates this intense desire with the imagery of a deer panting for water.

"As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God." Just as a deer longs for water, especially in times of drought, so our souls long for God. This is not a casual or passing desire, but a deep, persistent longing that comes from within our very being. It's a recognition of our need for God, our dependence on Him for sustenance and life.

"My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?" The psalmist's thirst is not for a distant or abstract deity, but for the living God. He yearns for a personal encounter with God, a meeting that brings comfort, strength, and satisfaction.

So today, let's reflect on our own thirst for God. Do we long for Him as a deer pants for water? Do we seek Him with the same intensity and persistence? And when we meet with Him, do we find our thirst quenched, our souls satisfied? Let's remember that this is not a passive longing, but an urgent seeking of God's presence. It's a call to action, a reminder that our souls can only find true satisfaction in Him.

Remember, God is the living water that our souls thirst for. He is the source of life, the one who satisfies our deepest longings. So, let's seek Him, thirst for Him, and find our satisfaction in Him.

No matter what you're going through, remember that God is the living water that quenches your soul's thirst. Seek Him, long for Him, and find your satisfaction in Him. We find comfort, strength, and a deep sense of satisfaction in His presence. So, let's rest in this truth and be reassured that our souls can find true contentment in God.

Prayer:

Lord, we want to desire more of your life in ours. May we be like the deer in the psalm, using all our energy to find you and be satisfied by you. We know that we should seek after you more than we do. We are too often satisfied with the lesser things of this present world. This realization should lead us to repentance, a change of heart and mind that motivates us to seek you urgently at all times. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
