Seek and Find

Scripture: Jerimiah 29:12-14 (ESV)

12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. 13 You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you, declares the Lord,

Devotion:

Today’s scripture is an excellent promise from God’s word. Although it originally was said to the Jewish exiles in Babylon, we as Christians can claim it as our own because Jesus said this in Matthew 7:7-8 (ESV) “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.” Jesus reaffirmed Jerimiah’s promise. Declaring it to a new generation of God’s people.

Our God is a God who wants to be found by us. Whether it is the God who was hidden from Job or the wise men who sought after the Christ child. God will always ultimately reveal himself to us if we seek him wholeheartedly.  We are now in the season of advent a period of approximately four weeks in which we wait to celebrate Christmas and the arrival of the Christ child, Jesus. Jesus always comes to us. Sometimes we do not recognize him because he comes in ways we do not expect.

So, we should always keep our eyes open for signs of God’s presence with us as we go about our daily lives. If we have believed in Jesus as our Lord and Savior, he promises to be with us always. (Hebrews 13:5) Therefore, we can trust in God’s abiding presence with us through the darkest times we may experience. God never promises that we won’t have darkness and difficulties in this life. Rather God promises to be with us no matter what we go through. (Isaiah 43:2) We should trust God’s word on the matter because his love for us never fails.

            Prayer:

Glory to you O Lord because you will never leave us or forsake us. No matter what the trial or circumstance we can rely on your unfailing love to see us through. Help us Lord, to always look to you for guidance no matter what our circumstances may be. Strengthen us to always walk in ways that are pleasing to you. We give you praise that you sent your son Jesus to be with us, Because of him we are assured of your constant presence with us and love for us. Amen.
