Rest In God

 Scripture: 62:1-2 (NIV)

Truly, my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Truly, he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.

Devotion:

There are seasons when the soul feels pulled in too many directions, stretched thin by pressures we never asked for and burdens we never expected. Psalm 62:1–2 calls us back to a quieter center, reminding us that true rest doesn’t come from circumstances easing but from God Himself. David speaks of a stillness rooted in trust — a confidence that God alone is our rock, our salvation, and our unshakable refuge. These verses invite us to breathe again and remember where our security truly rests.

David knew what it meant to be overwhelmed. He lived through betrayal, danger, personal failure, and the consequences of his own sin. Yet even in his darkest moments, he returned to God as his refuge. David’s rest was not found in his own strength or righteousness but in the character of the God who held him. He trusted God not only when life was peaceful but also when God was correcting him. Even then, David knew his life was safe in the hands of the One who saves.

That same invitation stands before us today. We, too, are called to rest in God’s salvation — a salvation David glimpsed from afar, but we now see clearly in Jesus Christ. David foresaw the day when God would act decisively to redeem His people. We look back on that day with gratitude, knowing that in Christ, God has indeed shown Himself to be a saving God. The Gospels tell the story of how Jesus entered our world, bore our sin, conquered death, and began reclaiming creation for Himself. This is the foundation of our rest: not our ability to hold on to God, but God’s unwavering commitment to hold on to us.

And so, when the world, the flesh, and the devil press hard against us — as they do daily — we remember that God is still our rock and fortress. Jesus Himself faced every temptation and every assault of the enemy, yet He never sinned. We may stumble, but through Him we are redeemed, upheld, and saved to the uttermost. Psalm 62 invites us to settle our hearts again in this truth: our hope, our rest, and our salvation come from God alone.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, we come to you as weak and sinful creatures, but we are made in your image, and you love us without reserve. Help us to stand upon Jesus, our rock and redeemer. May we gain the ultimate victory through His death and resurrection. May we always trust in our Savior and remember to cling to him when we feel our world may be getting out of control. Let us always run to you for help in our time of need. Because you are a rock and fortress against the world, Amen.
