I Am With You

Scripture: Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Devotion:

Fear has a way of shrinking our world, tightening our chest, and convincing us we’re standing alone. Isaiah 41:10 breaks through that heaviness with a promise strong enough to steady any trembling heart. God doesn’t simply tell us not to fear—He anchors that command in His own presence, His own strength, and His own faithful help. This verse invites us to lift our eyes from what overwhelms us and remember the One who holds us, upholds us, and walks beside us in every uncertain moment.

No matter how discouraging the circumstances we may face, God is there with us. Our God is always bigger than our problems. This can be hard to remember. We, humans, have a way of making our problems turn into anxiety until they seem unbearable. Indeed, they would be unbearable if not for Jesus, who came to rescue us. As Isaiah says in this short verse, God wants to help us just as he helped the Judeans in Isaiah’s day. Our God is faithful that way.

Our God loved all the world so much that He came to help us out of our bondage to sin in the person of Jesus. The gospels make it clear that Jesus was on a divine rescue mission. He healed the sick and taught the way of the kingdom of heaven. He inaugurated that kingdom on the cross and secured it in His resurrection. The God who began the kingdom with Adam and Eve finished it with Jesus. Jesus, who lives and reigns forever from heaven. The kingdom awaits its final consummation in the return of Jesus.

While we await that return, we can rest in the knowledge of God’s unfailing love and help even when we face daunting circumstances. God will never change His mind about us. God loves us and cares deeply for our well-being. He will calm all our fears if we let Him. God has fulfilled the promise He made through Isaiah by giving us Jesus, who came and lived among us, experiencing the full range of human emotions. As the writer of Hebrews says, “He was tempted in all ways and did not sin.” Therefore, let us learn to lean upon Jesus at all times.

Prayer:

Lord, we confess that we often meet our challenges with worry and anxiety rather than a quiet trust in you. Forgive our lack of faith and comfort us even or especially when we don’t deserve it. Your love is made perfect by your mercy toward us. May we always ask for your help when our circumstances seem too difficult to bear. Help us to realize that we are never alone. Strengthen our faith and let us be comforted by your faithful love. Amen.
