Encourage One Another

Scripture: Hebrews 10:24-25 (NIV)

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Devotion:

These verses sit at the heart of the Christian community. They remind us that faith was never meant to be lived in isolation. The writer of Hebrews calls believers to a deliberate, thoughtful, and active commitment to one another, rooted in the hope we share in Christ.

The phrase “let us consider” is intentional. It means giving careful thought, reflecting deeply, and paying attention. We are not simply told to love or to do good works; we are told to think about how to help others grow in these things. Christian community is not passive. It requires noticing one another, understanding one another, and seeking ways to strengthen one another. Love grows when believers take the time to see each other’s needs, burdens, and gifts.

The call to “not neglect meeting together” is more than a reminder to attend gatherings. It is an invitation to presence—to show up in each other’s lives with consistency and purpose. In a world that often values convenience over commitment, these words challenge us to resist the drift toward isolation. Gathering with God’s people shapes us. It reminds us of what is true. It lifts our eyes from ourselves and places us within the larger story of God’s work in His church.

Encouragement is the heartbeat of this passage. Encouraging one another is not merely offering kind words; it is speaking truth that strengthens weary hearts, pointing others back to Christ when they feel overwhelmed, and reminding them of God’s promises when circumstances feel heavy. Encouragement is a ministry every believer is called to, and it becomes even more urgent “as you see the Day drawing near.” The closer we move toward Christ’s return, the more we need one another’s voices, prayers, and presence.

Hebrews 10:24–25 invites us to see Christian community not as an optional addition to faith but as a vital expression of it. We grow best when we grow together. We endure best when we walk side by side. And we reflect Christ most clearly when we help one another pursue love, good works, and steadfast hope.

Prayer:

Praying for each other and encouraging each other are what we need your help with, Lord. May we grow strong in the faith and help each other to grow strong in the faith by spending time and attention to each other. Lord, lift us up in worship and in fellowship with one another. May your name be glorified through our efforts to make your kingdom come on earth as in heaven. Amen.
