Turn To The Lord

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 3:16-18 (NIV)

But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

Devotion:

When we read 2 Corinthians 3:16-18, we are reminded of God’s incredible promise of transformation. Paul tells us that when anyone turns to the Lord, the “veil is taken away.” This veil represents anything that keeps us from truly experiencing God’s presence—our doubts, our past mistakes, and our fears. Yet, the moment we turn toward Him in faith, with an open heart, these barriers begin to fade. The Lord wants to meet us in our honest seeking. He does not demand perfection; He asks us to turn to Him, trusting that He will do the rest.

Paul continues with a beautiful assurance: “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” This freedom isn’t just the absence of oppression, but the presence of actual liberational release from the shackles of guilt, shame, and spiritual blindness. In Christ, we are free to approach God with confidence, to be honest about our struggles, and to receive grace for every need. The Spirit of God brings light into the darkest corners of our hearts and reveals the truth of who we really are—beloved children of the Father.

The process of transformation described here is ongoing and deeply hopeful. “We all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory.” This means that as we spend time in God’s presence—praying, worshiping, meditating on His Word—we are changed. We may not see the change immediately, but God promises that He is working within us, reflecting His beauty and character ever more clearly through our lives. With every step, every surrender, every turning to Him, we become a little more like Jesus.

This transformation is not something we achieve by our own effort. It comes “from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” We are invited to rest in the assurance that God is at work in us. Our role is to keep turning to Him—again and again—whether in moments of joy, confusion, or pain. The Spirit leads us into greater freedom, healing, and purpose. As the veil is lifted, we see God more clearly, and in His light, we begin to see ourselves and others in a new way.

Today, let us turn to the Lord with open, expectant hearts. Let us trust that He is faithful to transform us, to set us free, and to reveal His glory through our lives. In His presence, we find hope, renewal, and the promise of ever-increasing glory.

Prayer:

Lord, we turn to you in prayer, knowing that you desire only the best for us. Please help us understand that you want our best, even when we disagree with your decrees for our lives. Glorify your name in us and allow us to turn to you with worship and praise at all times. Let us continue to be examples of your love for us and for others. Amen
