Live Worthy of God’s Calling
Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 2:7-12
(NIV)
Instead, we were like young
children among you. Just as a nursing mother cares for her children, we cared
for you. Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not
only the gospel of God but our lives as well. Surely you remember, brothers and
sisters, our toil and hardship; we worked night and day in order not to be a
burden to anyone while we preached the gospel of God to you. You are witnesses,
and so is God, of how holy, righteous, and blameless we were among you who
believed. For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with
his own children, encouraging, comforting, and urging you to live lives worthy
of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory.
Devotion:
In 1 Thessalonians 2:12-17, Paul
writes with a tender, pastoral heart, urging the believers to live lives worthy
of God, who calls each of us into His kingdom and glory. He reminds them that
his ministry was not just to preach the gospel, but to share life
itself—encouraging, comforting, and urging them on like a loving father. This
passage calls us to reflect on how we live out our faith, not just in words,
but in the substance of our everyday actions and relationships.
Paul emphasizes that the
Thessalonian church received the message not as human wisdom, but as God’s very
word, which is at work in those who believe. Despite facing hardships and
opposition, their faith endured and flourished. What an inspiration for us
today! In a world often marked by struggle, misunderstanding, or outright
resistance to the gospel, we are reminded that God’s word strengthens and
sustains us. It is alive, active, and able to transform our hearts and minds,
empowering us to persevere in faith.
Living worthy of God’s calling
means embracing His truth wholeheartedly. It is choosing integrity over
convenience, compassion over indifference, and faithfulness over compromise. Just
as Paul and his companions worked day and night, not seeking to burden others
but to bless them, we are called to serve with humility and love. Our lives
become a testimony—visible evidence of Christ’s work within us.
When we encounter challenges, let us
remember the encouragement and comfort Paul extended to the Thessalonians. God
does not abandon us in difficulty; He walks with us, providing strength,
wisdom, and hope. Each day, we have the opportunity to respond to His calling
by living for His glory, letting His love guide our words and deeds. As we do
so, we become more like Christ and help draw others into the hope and joy of
His kingdom.
Today, let’s ask ourselves: How can
I live worthy of God’s calling? In what areas can I offer encouragement, comfort,
or a helping hand to those around me? May we be inspired by Paul’s message and
may God’s word work powerfully in us—leading us into lives that honor Him and
bless others.
