Glorify the Lord With Me

Scripture: Psalms 34:1-3 (NIV)

1 I will extol the Lord at all times;

his praise will always be on my lips.

2 I will glory in the Lord;

let the afflicted hear and rejoice.

3 Glorify the Lord with me;

let us exalt his name together.

Devotion:

Psalms 34:1-3 (NIV) offers a call to worship and an invitation to praise the Lord collectively. These verses are not just a personal declaration but a communal appeal to exalt the name of the Lord together.

"I will extol the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips." (Psalm 34:1). This verse sets the tone for a life of continuous praise. The psalmist David commits to praising the Lord at all times, regardless of circumstances. This verse challenges us to adopt a similar attitude of unceasing praise. Whether in joy or sorrow, our lips should overflow with praises to our God, reflecting our constant acknowledgment of His sovereignty and goodness. The beauty of continuous praise is that it uplifts our spirits and fills our hearts with joy.

"I will glory in the Lord; let the afflicted hear and rejoice." (Psalm 34:2). Here, David gives a reason for his praise. He glories in the Lord, finding his ultimate pride and joy in God alone. This invites us to share our testimonies of God's goodness, especially with those who are afflicted. The afflicted are encouraged to rejoice when they hear of God's greatness and faithfulness. "Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt his name together." (Psalm 34:3). The final verse of this passage is an open invitation to communal worship. David does not want to glorify God in isolation; he yearns for collective exaltation. This is a powerful reminder of the beauty and strength found in unified worship. When we come together as a community of believers to glorify God, we reinforce the truth of His greatness and magnify His name in a way that individual worship cannot. Prayer:

            Lord, too often, we let life discourage us. Please help us remember the words in this psalm. They will help us to lift the dark clouds of depression and sadness, and bring us to a time of worship and praise. We have a salvation that comes from the Lord that can never be taken away from us. No matter what hardship our enemy may throw at us, we know we are secure in God’s love. Therefore, let us always praise God and rejoice that He calls us His children. Amen.
