The Truth Will Set You Free

Scripture: John 8:31-32 (NKJV)

31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

Devotion:

            Jesus said these words to the Jews who had heard his word and believed in him. However, his word are timeless in their application. Even in our culture which is based on lies and deceit there are those who call upon Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Much like those early believers who Jesus was addressing in these words from the apostle John, they have been deceived by the lies of this culture. Just as Jesus declared freedom from the lies of the culture long ago even now Jesus declares that his believers will be free from the lies that pervade our culture.

            Our culture is becoming increasingly bold in telling their lies. This is because the mainstream church is either too timid to call the lies out for what they are, or because they believe that they must go along and believe the lies that culture is telling them. At any rate, the Christian church needs to stand up with one voice and declare the lies of our culture are in fact lies born in the pit of hell.

 Satan knows that belief in Bible is at an all time low so now is the time to sow the seeds of corruption and deception into believer's hearts. More Christians are believing in the lies of sexuality and gender ideology and cultural Marxism. Even God’s people are feeling the tug not to resist but to join in these movements that will bring the fury of God’s wrath upon those who believe and practice such things. If not in this world their judgement is surely coming in the next.

So, it goes Satan blinds the eyes of the people so they cannot see the error of their ways. The devil stops our ears so that we may not hear the truth of the gospel that all who hear and follow God’s ways will know the truth and be free from bondage to Satan and the forces of hell. I am afraid the ground that the gospel falls on these days is rocky and hard. The birds of the air consume most of the seed of the word that is sown these days.

We need to keep our hearts tender and open to the sowing of the seed of God’s word. Teach us Lord to be farmers in the fields of your harvest. May we gather the harvest of souls that you have prepared beforehand for us to harvest. Open our eyes to see the fields you have prepared for us to harvest. Above all, lead us in your truth that will set us free to do the work you require of us in this world.

Prayer:

            Lord in you alone we hear the truth. Let us declare that truth to those who are waiting eagerly to hear it. Open our hearts to your love that we may love others as you have loved us. Keep your truth always before us so that we can be ministers of your love to those around us who have been victims of Satan’s lies. Help us push back the boundaries of evil and darkness and lead all people into your light and truth. Amen.
