Peace With God

Scripture: Romans 5:1-2 (NLT)

Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.

Devotion:

In this scripture we are introduced to the reason we can have peace with God. The author, Paul, begins the passage with the word “therefore.” To what does this word reference? Several commentators say that it has in view the entire argument of this letter from chapter 1 through chapter 4. These chapters discuss how we are made right with God. Paul here begins to explain what our faith accomplishes. It leads first of all to peace with God. Humans because of the fall are in a state of rebellion against God. Jesus came to remedy that situation through his life, death, and resurrection. By placing our faith in Jesus, we can rest assured of our place in God’s kingdom.

Christ’s provision for us gives us a new relationship with God. We are made whole by the power of his love. Even though we are still in our sins Jesus’ sacrifice for us restores our broken relationship with the Lord. It is all by the gift of grace from God that we are able to claim our place in heaven. Our rebellion against God has ended and we are at peace with him through our faith. We rejoice in our salvation because it is very great.

Because of what Jesus did so long ago to win for us our salvation, we can now be confident and joyful to look to a great future with God in heaven. With this in mind, we must share our faith with those who do not have the same assurance of eternal life with God. We must encourage one another with this good news. We should be prompted to live a life worthy of the name Christian giving thanks to God at all times. Living our lives in confident hope of our future glory. Let us pray that God would put his peace in our hearts.

Prayer:

Lord God, we come before you as a rebellious race. Help us to live into the promises and provision you have made for us in Christ Jesus. Subdue our rebellious spirit and help us to relax and enjoy the salvation you have achieved for us. Lord help us to be at peace with you. Let us not hide from you as Adam and Eve did after they had sinned. Let us come boldly before your throne in the name of Jesus and make our requests of you. God, thank you for all you have done for us. Help us to live in peace with you and the world. Amen.
