Grow In Grace
Grow In Grace
Scripture: 2 Peter 3:18 (NIV)
But grow in the grace and knowledge
of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever!
Amen.
Devotion:
As we look to the words of 2 Peter
3:18, “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
To him be glory both now and forever! Amen,” we are reminded of the
never-ending journey of our spiritual lives. Growth is not something that
happens to us passively. It’s an active pursuit, a daily decision to lean into
the grace and wisdom that only Christ can give. Peter encourages us not to
remain stagnant or satisfied with where we are but to constantly seek a deeper
relationship with Jesus. This verse is not just a reminder—it’s an invitation
to transformation.
But what does it mean to “grow in
grace”? Grace is more than unmerited favor; it is God’s loving kindness and
strength that empowers us to live beyond our own limitations. To grow in grace
means to increasingly rely on God’s love, forgiveness, and power in every
circumstance. Each day invites us to receive anew the grace that covers our
shortcomings, gives us patience in trials, and fills us with hope. This grace
shapes our attitudes, influences our actions, and fuels our desire to serve
others as Christ served us.
Equally important is growing in
knowledge—specifically, knowledge of our Lord and Savior. This isn’t just
intellectual understanding or memorizing Scripture, though those are valuable.
It’s a personal, experiential understanding of Jesus: knowing His heart,
character, and ways. As we spend time in prayer, reflect on His Word, and navigate
life’s seasons — both joyful and challenging —we come to know Him more
intimately. This knowledge leads to trust, and from trust comes obedience and
spiritual maturity.
Peter’s message is both humbling
and hopeful. No matter how long we have walked with Christ, there is always
more of Him to discover. The process of growing in grace and knowledge is
lifelong, but it is not burdensome. We are not left to our own devices; the
Holy Spirit graciously guides us, teaches us, and empowers us to grow. As we
yield to this process, our lives become reflections of God’s glory, pointing
others to the goodness of Jesus.
Today, consider: Are you growing in
grace, extending forgiveness to yourself and others, relying on God’s strength
in your weakness? Are you growing in knowledge, seeking Jesus not just in your
head, but in your heart?
Prayer:
May we accept Peter’s invitation with joy,
knowing that as we grow, all glory belongs to Christ—both now and forever. May this blessing always be in our minds and
on our lips. In the name of Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.
