Who is Like God

Scripture: Psalm 71:19 (NIV)

Your righteousness, God, reaches to the heavens, you who have done great things. Who is like you, God?

Devotion:

In this beautiful verse, the psalmist marvels at God's boundless righteousness, which stretches beyond comprehension, reaching the heavens. It serves as a reminder that God's greatness is unparalleled, surpassing all human understanding and accomplishment. When we pause to consider the works of God—the creation of the universe, the acts of deliverance, and the unyielding love shown to humanity—we, too, are left asking, "Who is like you, God?"

Psalm 71:19 invites us into a posture of awe and worship. It calls us to recognize that earthly limitations do not bind God's righteousness, but rather that it is eternal and infinite. This righteousness is both comforting and challenging. It reassures us that God is incapable of injustice and embodies goodness, truth, and mercy in His nature. His deeds reflect this character, inspiring trust and hope in His promises.

For those who seek refuge in Him, this verse is a source of peace. The psalmist likely wrote these words in a time of personal trial, reflecting on the steadfastness of God throughout their life and history. It reminds us that God's greatness is evident not just in the grandiose but also in the deeply personal. His great deeds include the quiet moments of comfort, the answered prayers, and the strength He provides in times of weakness.

As we meditate on this passage, let us ask ourselves: How often do we pause to acknowledge God's greatness in our lives? Do we take time to see His righteousness in both the miraculous and the mundane? Whether in moments of joy or seasons of struggle, Psalm 71:19 encourages us to lift our eyes to the heavens and proclaim, "Who is like you, God?"

Today, let this verse shape our hearts and actions. May it lead us to greater gratitude for how God has worked and continues to work in our lives. May it inspire us to trust Him with our struggles, knowing His righteousness is sufficient for our needs. And may it compel us to praise Him, not just for what He has done, but for who He is: a God whose greatness knows no bounds.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, let our voices echo the psalmist in this exclamation of your glory and grace. No one in heaven or on earth compares with you. All other gods are a mere illusion and not worthy of the praise that must go to you alone. Thank you for all that you have done and will do for us. May your praise always be on our lips as we seek to be obedient creatures. Amen.
