Awake My Soul
Scripture: Psalm 57:7-11 (NIV)
My heart, O God, is steadfast, my
heart is steadfast; I will sing and make music. Awake, my soul! Awake, harp and
lyre! I will awaken the dawn. I will praise you, Lord, among the nations; I
will sing of you among the peoples. For great is your love, reaching to the
heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the
heavens; let your glory be over all the earth.
Devotion:
David's words in Psalm 57:7-11 echo
the profound resilience and unwavering trust in God that can inspire us in our
own lives. Despite being pursued by enemies, David doesn’t let fear or despair
rule his heart. Instead, his steadfastness is rooted in his commitment to
praising God—a reminder that worship can be a powerful response to trials.
The phrase “Awake, my soul!” feels
like a call to action, stirring us to rise above our circumstances and align
our hearts toward God’s greatness. David doesn’t reserve his praises for
private moments alone; he declares his intention to exalt God among the nations
and peoples. His worship is bold, outward-facing, and unafraid to stand as a
testament of God’s love and faithfulness to the world.
What’s particularly striking is the
way David frames God's attributes. He speaks of love that reaches to the
heavens and faithfulness stretching to the skies—a poetic yet profound
recognition of the boundless nature of God’s character. It reminds us that no
matter how vast our troubles may seem, God’s love and faithfulness surpass them
infinitely.
This psalm invites us to trust in
God’s unfailing presence and to direct our hearts toward Him in both joy and
adversity. As we praise, we exalt His glory “above the heavens,” lifting our
eyes from the problems of the earth to the majesty of our Creator. It’s a
spiritual posture that can transform our perspective, enabling us to see life
through the lens of hope and victory.
Let this passage encourage you to
awaken your soul each day with praises. Whether through song, prayer, or acts
of kindness, let your life reflect the love and faithfulness of God. In doing
so, His glory will be magnified not just in your heart but across all the
earth.
Prayer:
Lord
God Almighty, let our hearts join with David’s in this hour. No matter what
obstacles or problems we may face, God is greater than them all. May we each
open our hearts and voices in loudest praise to God our creator, redeemer, and
sustainer. Let all the world know of his awesome care for His children. Sing
praise, awaken the dawn! Amen.
