We Have No King but Caesar

14 Now it was The day of Preparation for the Passover. It was about the sixth hour. He said to the Jews, “Behold your King!” 15 They cried out, “Away with him, away with him, crucify him!” Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar.” 16 So he nDelivered him over to them to be crucified. Scripture: John 19:14-16 (ESV)

Meditation:

Today, we are witnessing protests against our current sitting president because, as the protesters claim, Donald Trump has positioned himself as a king. This accusation is as unfounded as it was in Jesus' day. While it's important to remember that Donald Trump is a political figure and not a religious one, the protesters are mistaken in opposing his policies. The reality is that Trump has focused on securing our homeland against those who would harm us and has nearly eradicated all illegal immigration into this country. He is far from being a king over us.

Every day, we read about acts of violence against citizens of the United States by individuals whom the previous administration allowed to enter our country in violation of our laws. Our President deserves praise rather than protest. Our nation faces the threat of serious conflict due to the mass immigration resulting from the previous administration's incompetence. As citizens of this country, we have the right to halt this dangerous trend.

Our country would be better off with a benevolent dictator than with a king who allows such lawlessness and evil to be perpetrated against us as citizens. I'm not suggesting that we should have a king. I'm simply stating that not all dictatorships are as horrific as Nazism under Hitler, communism under Lenin and Stalin, and the atrocities committed by Mao in China. However, we must remain vigilant, as our country is at risk of slipping into one of these murderous dictatorships if we're not careful.

Let Trump be Trump, for Congress and the judicial branches of government are more than capable of countering any potential violation of the Constitution. The brilliance of our 200-plus-year-old Constitution ensures that the President does not exceed the powers granted to him. I understand that it's a lot to ask of the public to trust the Constitution's ability to handle this situation, but it's a trust that's both warranted and necessary.

We must uphold this trust, as we may find ourselves proclaiming one king while in desperate need of another who will rule with justice and peace. This is a responsibility that we all share. Amen.
