Justified by Christ

Scripture: Romans 5:1-2 (NIV)

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.

Devotion:

This passage encapsulates the profound transition when we are justified by faith in Jesus Christ. Justification, a divine act, transforms the sinner into a righteous being solely based on their faith in Jesus’ atoning sacrifice. This transformative power of justification is not the end of our spiritual journey; rather, it is the beginning of a deeper, more intimate relationship with God.

Justification grants us peace with God. This peace is not merely the absence of conflict but a profound state of well-being and reconciliation. Through Christ, the barrier of sin that once separated us from God is removed, allowing us to enter His presence freely and confidently. This newfound peace transforms our relationship with God from one of estrangement to one of communion and fellowship.

Furthermore, Romans 5:2 highlights that through Christ, we have gained access by faith to this grace in which we stand. Grace is not a one-time gift, but a continuous, steadfast position of favor and acceptance before God. It is an invitation to live daily in the awareness of God's love, mercy, and strength. This grace empowers us to move beyond the initial act of justification and grow our relationship with God.

To boast in the hope of God's glory is to have a confident expectation of the future revelation of God's glory. This hope is not wishful thinking, but a guaranteed promise based on God's faithfulness. It's like eagerly anticipating a long-awaited reunion with a loved one. This hope spurs us to pursue God with greater fervor, knowing that our ultimate destination is sharing in His glory.

Our journey from justification to a personal relationship with God involves embracing His grace. This means accepting His forgiveness and extending that same grace to others. It's about cultivating peace, both within us and in our relationships with others, and anchoring our hope in His promises. It is about deepening our connection through prayer, studying His Word, and living out our faith daily. It is a relationship marked by trust, love, and obedience.

Prayer:

Lord, help us move beyond knowing and accepting that through Jesus Christ, you have taken care of our sins forever. Lead us on to the knowledge that we are your adopted children and can have a wonderful relationship with you as our Father. Help us to live into this wonderful truth and relax as we realize that you want us to enjoy a relationship with you. Amen.
