Jesus Help Us
Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24
(NIV)
May God himself, the God of peace,
sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul, and body be kept
blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is
faithful, and he will do it.
Devotion:
In the hustle and bustle of daily
life, it can be easy to feel fragmented and overwhelmed. Our responsibilities
pull us in different directions, leaving us physically drained, mentally
exhausted, and spiritually depleted. Yet, in 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24, we find a
profound reminder of God’s comprehensive care for us. Paul’s prayer for the
Thessalonians is a prayer for us all: that God Himself, the God of peace, would
sanctify us entirely—spirit, soul, and body.
What a comfort to know that God’s
sanctification is holistic. He is concerned not only with one part of our being
but our entire existence. The term “sanctify” means to set apart for holy use,
to purify, and to make whole. This work of sanctification is not something we
achieve by our own strength or efforts; it is a divine act performed by the God
of peace. His peace is not merely the absence of conflict but a profound sense
of wholeness and well-being.
Moreover, Paul assures us that the
One who calls us is faithful. This faithfulness is a cornerstone of our trust
in God. He has called us to Himself and is committed to completing the work He
has begun in us. Even when we falter, His faithfulness remains steadfast. He
will keep our whole spirit, soul, and body blameless at the coming of our Lord
Jesus Christ.
This passage invites us to trust in
God’s sanctifying power. It encourages us to surrender every aspect of our
lives—thoughts, emotions, and physical health—to His transformative work. As we
do so, we experience the peace that comes from knowing that God is actively
involved in our sanctification.
Let this be our prayer today:
That we would be open to God's
sanctifying work in our lives, trusting in His faithfulness to make us whole.
May we experience His peace in every aspect of our being, confident that He
will keep us blameless until the day of Christ’s return. Lord God, in moments
of chaos and uncertainty, remember that the God of peace is sanctifying you. You
are faithful, and You will do it. Rest in this assurance and allow His peace to
permeate every part of your life. Amen.
