Disarming Satan's Accusations

Scripture: Revelation 12:10 (NIV)

Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: “Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Messiah. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down.

Devotion:

This post was inspired by a Facebook post by one of my friends. The author claimed that a particular politician had committed a long list of sins that disqualified them from holding a government office. In response to these accusations, this scripture immediately came to mind.

In this scripture, Satan is referred to as the accuser of the brothers and sisters. Indeed, he has a long list of sins against all of us and continually presents our faults before the living and holy God. Those of us who know Jesus understand that our sins have been atoned for and forgiven by God through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.

Additionally, God often uses people most consider to have committed grave sins to achieve great deeds. What can we say about this peculiar quality of our God? We must hold fast to the Biblical promises and allow God to be fully sovereign and holy. God can accomplish whatever He desires, using “saints” or “sinners” to fulfill His goals.

We must recognize that Satan possesses a list of every sin and mistake made by us poor sinners. Even those who represent their political parties in elections have all their sins recorded in Satan’s hands. God has achieved remarkable things through flawed humans. Moses was a murderer, yet he led Israel to the promised land. David was both an adulterer and a murderer, and he is celebrated as a man after God’s own heart. Peter repeatedly denied knowing Jesus, but God chose him to lead the early church. Similarly, God selected Paul, a violent man, to write much of the New Testament.

Today’s scripture brings good news for believers and offers hope to unbelievers. Nothing can stop God from using anyone to fulfill His divine will. Let us now seek the Lord so that we may be forgiven and disarm Satan’s accusations against us.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, we thank You for Your limitless grace and mercy. We acknowledge our sins and trust in Your forgiveness through Jesus Christ. Help us remember that You can use anyone, no matter their past, to fulfill Your divine purpose. Strengthen our faith and protect us from Satan's accusations. May we seek Your forgiveness and live in the freedom of Your love. Amen.
