Now is the Time

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 6:1-2 (ESV)

Working together with him, then, we appeal to you not to receive the grace of God in vain. For he says,

“In a favorable time, I listened to you,

and in a day of salvation, I have helped you.”

Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation.

Devotion:

Advent is a season of waiting. Today’s scripture seems to indicate that we should not wait. As it says, now is the time. Yet in a certain way we need to be ready for the future coming in the here and now. Our salvation is not to be put off for a more opportune time, because that time will never come. Making our decision to follow Jesus knows no better time than the present. Advent is indeed a time of waiting but it is also a time to act. We must prepare ourselves for Jesus’ coming right now.

As verse one above states we are to be, “working together with him.” We are to ready ourselves by receiving the grace which God gives freely to all who believe in His Son. If we sit back and wait for a better time we will wait too long. None of us is promised another day of life. Since we live in a state of constant dependence on God for our next breath, we must make certain of our salvation. We know that salvation comes by faith and not by works we must ask ourselves if we truly have faith that leads to salvation.

Now is truly the favorable time for us to take hold of our salvation. If we delay, we may wait until the time is not favorable and we will be excluded from this great salvation that we have been offered freely. God awaits our decision and since He is willing that none should perish but all come to eternal life through His son it may seem that there is no reason to rush our decision. However, no one knows the day or time of the end, so we must act now before it is too late. Let us pray for our salvation to come now. Then we can wait for Jesus’ return with peace in our souls.

Prayer:

Lord, give us a sense of urgency to make our entrance into your heavenly kingdom is a reality. End all procrastinating behavior in our lives. Let us be assured of our place in heaven with you. We humbly come to you in faith seeking your grace of eternal life. We thank you for being generous and kind to those who seek you. You promise if we seek you, we will find you. Help live lives that bring glory to your name. Amen.
