Christ the King
Scripture:
Colossians 1:11-20 (ESV)
11 May
you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all
endurance and patience with joy, 12 giving
thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the
saints in light. 13 He
has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom
of his beloved Son, 14 in
whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
15 He is the image of the
invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by him all things were created, in heaven
and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or
authorities—all things were created through him and for him. 17 And he is before all
things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church. He
is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be
preeminent. 19 For in
him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all
things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.
Meditation
This coming Sunday is celebrated in
the year as Christ the King Sunday. The last Sunday before Advent. In the
scripture above Paul is describing all the wonderful ways in which Christ is
our king. It is an amazing overview of just who Christ really was and is. And
why we should worship him today.
We should be encouraged in the
knowledge that Christ is not still dead in the tomb, but alive and is in heaven
dwelling in the Trinity forever. We can rejoice in the fact that Jesus Christ
came as a man and suffered in all things as we do. But was triumphant over
death and is raised from earthly realms to rule with God on high. Therefore our
lives can be lived triumphantly over sin and death.
Knowing that Christ has reconciled all
things to himself. And made peace by the blood of his cross. So that we may all
be reconciled to ourselves and others and most importantly reconciled to God.
Therefore now there is nothing that stands in between us and God. We are
empowered to live that most important commandment. “To love the Lord our God
with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength as well as to love our neighbor as
ourselves.”
Let us rejoice in prayer!
Prayer:
Lord God, King of the universe, we
bow before your holiness and worship you with all that we have. Open our eyes
to see how great a salvation you have provided for us in Jesus Christ the King.
Let our hearts, minds, and mouths, open in unguarded praise of the undisputed
King of the world. Reconcile us to each other and to you in every way. Help us
to radiate the victory that You have achieved to this world that is wondering
where its salvation will come from. In Jesus name, Amen.
