No More Crying
Scripture: Revelation 21:3-4 (ESV)
And I heard a loud voice from the
throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell
with them; they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their
God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor
crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
Devotion:
What is your ultimate hope in life?
What are you longing for and looking forward to? Some people may hope for
success, happiness, health, or love. But as Christians, our hope transcends all
these earthly desires. Our ultimate hope is the eternal presence of God with us.
The book of Revelation gives us a
glimpse of the glorious future that awaits those who belong to God. In the new
heaven and new earth, there will be no more sin, evil, suffering, or death. All
the things that cause us pain and sorrow will be gone. God himself will dwell
with his people and be their God. He will comfort them and wipe away every tear
from their eyes. We will enjoy his love, peace, and joy for eternity.
This is the unwavering promise that
God has made to us in Christ. He has redeemed us by his blood and sealed us
with his Spirit. He has prepared a place for us in his kingdom and will come
back to take us to himself. He has given us his word and his Spirit to
guarantee our inheritance. He has called us to live by faith and not by sight,
to set our minds on things above and not on things below, to endure hardship
and persecution with patience and hope, to love him and serve him with all our
hearts, and to share the gospel and make disciples of all nations.
As we meditate on this passage, let
us ask ourselves: How does this hope affect our daily lives? How does it shape
our values, priorities, decisions, and actions? How does it inspire us to
worship, pray, and obey God? How does it motivate us to seek his kingdom and
his righteousness? How does it encourage us to comfort, support, and edify one
another? How does it empower us to face trials, challenges, and temptations?
How does it compel us to witness, testify, and proclaim the good news of Jesus
Christ? Let us pray:
Prayer:
Lord,
we thank and praise you for your incredible love for us. You have destined
those who follow you a hope of heaven that is without comparison. Let us seek
your face so that we may have the assurance of our inheritance in you. Help
share our great hope with others that all the people we know and love may be
with us where death, pain, and sorrow will be no more. Thank you, Lord, for all
the good gifts you have given us. Let us thank you by following wherever you
may lead us. Amen.
