Eternal Glory
Scripture: 2
Corinthians 4:16-18 (ESV)
16 So we do not lose
heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed
day by day. 17 For this
light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory
beyond all comparison, 18 as
we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For
the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are
eternal.
Devotion:
Today’s scripture states something
that has become obvious to me. That our outer bodies are wearing out over time.
It is a very human condition. The longer we live it seems the more fragile our
health becomes. I see so many people whose health is slipping away day
by day all around me. Therefore, these words of Paul are of great comfort to us
as Christians.
Even though everything seems against
us we can trust that in Jesus we have a grand future spread out before us. A
future of eternity in the presence of God. We must always remember that what we
see on the outside of ourselves, and others is but a shadow of what we are to
become. Therefore, we should keep in mind always that we are not mere mortals,
but we have an eternal destiny to look forward to. We have never met nor are we
destined for ashes considering God’s promises to us.
Since we have this great promise, we
must bear with our health conditions and the other trials we face in this world, always remembering that ultimately things will be made right by you. So, we
must be firm in our faith, therefore. Always relying on God’s strength and the
fellowship of other believers we can face any trial that Satan, the flesh, or
the world send our way. Let us praise God together for his great works in our
lives.
Prayer:
O Most Holy God, we praise you for
the salvation you have provided for us in your son, Jesus Christ. We know we
can face the future regardless of what is thrown our way by the world. Let us
with happy voices lift praises to your holy name both now, and forever more
in heaven. Glory to you Lord. We want to worship you with all of our beings.
Thanks for all you have done and will continue to do for us. Amen.
