God Knows Everything

Scripture: Hebrews 6:10-12 (NIV)

10 God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. 11 We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, so that what you hope for may be fully realized. 12 We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.

Devotion:

Today’s devotional is dedicated to all those who help around the church without getting any recognition. The custodian who makes sure that the sanctuary is clean and ready for worship each Sunday. The nursery worker who sacrifices their own worship time so that they can provide care for those with young children and infants. And many more that help out in ways that we never think of and never get recognized.

The message is simple God sees your service and he is pleased with it. God sees every act of love done in the name of Christ and will on the last day reward those who have been diligent in service. This can be an encouragement to all the people of the church. There is nothing done for Christ that goes unnoticed by our heavenly Father. In fact, in Matthew there is a whole series of instructions to do our good deeds in secret. Take for example this from Matthew 6:3-4: “But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

What you do in secret from men, God will shout from the throne of heaven in honor of your good works. Our good works do not earn us salvation but applause from our heavenly Father. What could be better, after running the race of life, than to hear God say “well done my good and faithful servant” to us when we reach heaven.

Those who faithfully fulfill jobs that are in the public eye will receive their reward in due time as well. God is faithful to reward all his servants with perfect rewards. God seeks people to work out of the public eye and to do his will for the building up of the church. Every Pastor needs people praying for him or her. There are literally dozens of things you can do to build up the church that will never be recognized in front of the congregation. Once you find one do it faithfully and to the best of your ability and God will reward you.

Prayer:

Father in heaven we come before you giving thanks for all the people who work to build up the church without public recognition. Bless them as they seek to do your will in ways that the majority of the church will never see. Thank you for these anonymous servants of yours. Bless them and encourage them to keep on in their “hidden” ministries that the church may function as it should. May you richly bless them in heaven. Amen.
