The Lord Lives!
Scripture: 2
Samuel 22:47 (NIV)
“The Lord lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be my
God, the Rock, my Savior!
Devotion:
These words come from
David near the end of his life, as he looks back on years marked by danger,
betrayal, warfare, and God’s astonishing faithfulness. This verse is not a
theoretical statement about God; it is the testimony of a man who has been
rescued again and again. David’s praise rises from lived experience — from
caves, battlefields, and seasons of deep uncertainty. And in this single
sentence, he gives us a declaration that can steady any believer’s heart.
This
is more than a theological truth; it is a confession of hope. David is saying, “My
God is not distant, silent, or inactive. He is alive, present, and at work.”
When life feels unstable or overwhelming, this is where faith begins — not with
our strength, but with the living God who sees, hears, and acts. The God who
sustained David is the same God who sustains us.
David had known literal rocks — hiding places in the wilderness, cliffs that
shielded him from Saul’s pursuit. But here he speaks of something far greater.
God Himself is the unshakable foundation beneath David’s life. When everything
else shifted, God remained steady. When relationships fractured, when enemies
rose up, when David’s own failures threatened to undo him, God was the rock who
did not move. Every believer needs this reminder: our security is not in
circumstances but in the character of God.
David’s praise is personal — my God, my rock, my
salvation. Salvation, for David, was not an abstract idea. It was the story of
God lifting him out of danger, forgiving his sin, restoring his soul, and
keeping His promises. And because God had proven Himself faithful, David exalts
Him. Worship becomes the natural response to a God who saves so completely.
This verse invites us to
look back and remember the ways God has been our rock — the quiet provisions,
the unexpected strength, the peace that held us together when life felt
fragile. And it invites us to look forward with confidence. The God who lives,
who is our rock, who saves — He is the same today.
Prayer:
Lord, You are the living God, our rock, and our salvation. Thank You for the
ways You have steadied, protected, and carried us. Teach us to trust Your
unchanging character in every season. Let our lives echo David’s praise as we
exalt You for Your faithfulness and grace. Amen.
