Saved From Wrath
Scripture: Romans 5:9-10 (NIV)
Since we have now been justified by
his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! For
if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of
his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his
life!
Devotion:
Romans 5:9-10 delivers a powerful
message about the depth of God’s love and the surety of our salvation in
Christ. Paul reminds us that we have been justified—declared righteous—by the
blood of Jesus. This means that the penalty for our sins has been paid, and we
stand before God, not condemned, but accepted and beloved. What a comforting
truth: “Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we
be saved from God’s wrath through him!” The cross of Christ is not only the
place of forgiveness, but also the place where the wrath of God against sin was
satisfied once and for all.
Take a moment to consider the depth
of this reconciliation. Paul says, “For if, while we were God’s enemies, we
were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been
reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!” Before Christ, we were
alienated from God, living in opposition to His holiness, unable to bridge the
chasm created by our rebellion. Yet, God did not wait for us to become worthy;
instead, He came to us in love while we were still His enemies. Through Jesus’s
sacrificial death, He brought peace where there was hostility and a
relationship where there was estrangement.
But the passage doesn’t stop at
reconciliation. It goes further to proclaim that, having been reconciled,
Jesus’ life now saves us. His resurrection is the proof that death and sin do
not have the final word. The living Christ intercedes for us, sustains us, and
empowers us to live beyond mere survival—to walk in the fullness of life He
offers. Salvation is not just rescue from punishment; it is the gift of
abundant life, filled with hope, transformation, and purpose. God’s salvation is
complete, ongoing, and rooted in His unwavering love for us.
Today, let this truth sink deep
into your heart: You are saved from wrath, reconciled by the cross, and
sustained by the living Christ. When doubts arise or guilt tries to creep in,
remember what God has done and continues to do. Our salvation is secure, not
because of anything we could do, but because of what Christ has already
accomplished. Let gratitude and awe fill your prayers today and walk
confidently in the assurance of His saving grace.
Prayer:
Lord
Almighty, we lift our hearts and voices to proclaim our praise to you because
of the mighty salvation you have worked for us. Your sacrifice on the cross is
beyond our ability to understand. Let us by our lives proclaim your wonderful
works to our broken and hurting world. May the message of your salvation
convict even the most complacent and self-satisfied soul. Amen.
