Do Not Lose Heart

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 (NIV)

Therefore, we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So, we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Devotion:

In our daily lives, it’s easy to become discouraged by challenges, disappointments, and the inevitable wear and tear of time. Paul’s words in 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 remind us that while our bodies and circumstances may deteriorate, God is at work renewing us within. The “light and momentary troubles” we face are not meaningless; rather, they are producing in us an “eternal glory” that far surpasses our current difficulties.

This passage gently shifts our perspective. Instead of focusing on what we can see—the visible struggles, the passing joys, and pains—Paul calls us to fix our eyes on what is unseen. The things we see are temporary, fleeting like the morning mist. But God’s promises, His presence, and the hope of eternity are unchanging and everlasting.

When we feel weighed down by life, we can remember that God’s renewal is a daily process. Each morning brings new mercies and quiet strength for the road ahead. Troubles may press in from every side, but they are not the whole story. Our hardships are real, but they do not define us; our true identity is found in Christ, who renews us and leads us toward glory.

So today, let’s lift our eyes. Let’s trust that God is doing something beautiful in us, even through our pain and weakness. Let’s hold on to the truth that our struggles are not wasted, but are shaping us for an eternity with Him. In the midst of whatever you face, don’t lose heart—God is making all things new, and His unseen work in you will last forever.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, strengthen our resolve to worship you and follow you in all we do. May we not let the problems or worries of the world overwhelm us. Make our hearts strong and resilient to stand up and speak truth in love. Amen.
