Today is the Day
Scripture: 2 Corinthians 6:1-2
(NIV)
As God’s co-workers, we urge you
not to receive God’s grace in vain. For he says, “In the time of my favor I
heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.” I tell you, now is the
time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.
Devotion:
In these verses from 2 Corinthians,
Paul speaks with an urgency that calls us to action in the present moment. He
emphasizes the importance of not taking God's grace for granted and the
immediacy of responding to His call. The phrase "now is the time of God's
favor, now is the day of salvation" resonates deeply, urging us to
recognize the significance of the present.
God's grace is a precious gift, not
to be received passively or taken lightly. As co-workers with God, we are
invited to participate actively in His divine plan. Paul warns against
receiving this grace in vain, reminding us that it is not merely a safety net
or an abstract concept, but a living, dynamic force meant to profoundly transform
our lives and the lives of those around us.
Reflecting on this passage, we are
reminded that each day presents an opportunity to embrace God's grace and share
it with others. The 'time of God's favor' is not a distant future event; it is
here and now. Our actions, decisions, and attitudes today can reflect the
transformative power of God's grace. We are called to live in a way that fully
engages with this gift, showing kindness, compassion, and love to those we
encounter.
The urgency in Paul's message also
speaks to the fleeting nature of time. We often think we have endless tomorrows
to make changes, seek forgiveness, or pursue our calling. However, Paul reminds
us that the day of salvation is today. This is a call to not procrastinate our
spiritual growth or response to God's call. We are encouraged to seize the
moment, act intentionally, and live fully in the grace God has bestowed
upon us.
As we go about our daily lives, let
us be mindful of the opportunities to embody God's grace. Whether it is through
a kind word, a helping hand, or a moment of prayer, we can make a profound
impact. Let us not receive God's grace in vain, but rather let it flow through
us, bringing light and hope to a world in need.
In conclusion, 2 Corinthians 6:1-2
challenges us to recognize God's grace's immediacy and our response's
importance. Today is the day of salvation, and now is the time of God's favor.
Let us embrace this divine truth and live each moment with purpose, gratitude,
and a heart open to the transformative power of God's grace.
Prayer:
Let’s
not wait another day to claim the salvation won for us on the cross and empty
tomb. Help us realize the incredible gift you have given us through the life,
death, and resurrection of Jesus. Let our lives testify to your goodness and
mercy, Lord. Help us, Lord, to spread the word of your salvation wherever we
go. Let us share your glory in our words and our actions. Amen.
