Wait For The Lord

Scripture: Psalm 130:1-6 (NIV)

Out of the depths I cry to you, Lord;

2     Lord, hear my voice.

Let your ears be attentive

to my cry for mercy.

If you, Lord, kept a record of sins,

Lord, who could stand?

But with you there is forgiveness,

so that we can, with reverence, serve you.

I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits,

and in his word, I put my hope.

I wait for the Lord

more than watchmen wait for the morning,

more than watchmen wait for the morning.

Devotion:

In today’s scripture, we witness the psalmist's emotional journey, crying out from the depths. They begin by expressing their desperation, their voice echoing from the depths of their soul. We all traverse through moments of darkness, pain, and uncertainty. In those times, we can turn to God, knowing He hears our voice and will act on our behalf.

The psalmist acknowledges the weight of our sins, recognizing that if God kept a record, none of us could stand before Him. But here’s the beautiful truth: God's forgiveness is not just a mere erasure of our wrongdoings. It is transformative. His grace surpasses our failures. When we repent, He wipes our slate clean, allowing us to approach Him with reverence and gratitude. This is a source of hope and reassurance, knowing that no matter how deep our sins are, God's forgiveness can lift us up.

Waiting is a challenge, especially in times of distress. Yet, the psalmist doesn't just suggestions but encourages us to wait for the Lord. Our hope is not in our circumstances but anchored in Him. Just as watchmen eagerly anticipate the morning light, we can eagerly await God’s intervention. His promises are not just reliable suggestions; they are steadfast, and His timing is not just good; it's always perfect.

As we journey through life’s depths, may we find not just solace, but comfort in God’s presence. His forgiveness and promises to sustain us, and our waiting becomes an act of faith. Let Psalm 130 remind us that even in the darkest moments, we can cry out to the Lord and find hope in His unfailing love. This is a source of comfort and security, knowing that we are never alone in our struggles.

Prayer:

Lord, we sometimes hurt so badly that we feel paralyzed, if not physically, then emotionally. Please help us to reach out of our darkness until we see your light and feel your presence surrounding us. Even when we feel alone and distressed, we know you are with us. We ask for the confidence to believe that you are really walking with us through the valley of the shadow of death. Please give us the courage to hope for your comforting answer. Amen
