Lord Preserve Us

Scripture: Psalm 121:7-8 (KJV)

The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil:

He shall preserve thy soul.

The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in

From this time forth, and even forevermore.

Devotion:

Life's journey, with its uncertainties and challenges, often leaves us feeling vulnerable and anxious. Yet, in the midst of our travels, we find solace and strength in the promises of God, as beautifully encapsulated in Psalm 121:7-8. These verses offer a profound assurance of God’s unwavering protection and guidance, speaking directly to the struggles and fears each of us faces in our daily lives.

As we delve into these verses, we are reminded that the Lord is not just a distant figure, but our Keeper, a vigilant guardian who neither slumbers nor sleeps. His watchful eyes are always upon us, shielding us against the myriad forms of harm that may befall us. This divine protection is not limited to physical safety but encompasses our emotional and spiritual well-being, enveloping us in a comforting embrace of love and care.

The phrase “will keep you from all harm” is not just a statement, but a testament to God’s omnipotence. It is an encompassing protection that covers every aspect of our existence. Whether we face the perils of nature, the malice of adversaries, or the inner turmoil of doubt and fear, we can rest assured that God’s protective hand is upon us, like a shield that nothing can penetrate.

Moreover, the psalmist emphasizes the continuity of this protection by stating that the Lord “will watch over your life.” This is not a temporary or conditional promise but an eternal commitment from the Creator to His creation. Our lives, with all their complexities and seasons, are under the constant gaze of the Almighty, providing us with a sense of security that transcends time.

The assurance extends to our “coming and going,” a poetic expression that signifies all our endeavors and movements. Whether we are embarking on new ventures or returning to familiar grounds, whether we are in moments of transition or periods of stability, God’s presence accompanies us. He is there in our departures, arrivals, successes, and failures.

This promise of divine guardianship is not only for the present moment but “both now and always.” It transcends time, assuring us that the constraints of our earthly journey do not bind God’s protection. It is a perpetual covenant that carries into eternity, offering a peace that endures beyond the temporal realm, providing us with an everlasting sense of security and comfort.

Reflecting on these verses, we are encouraged and inspired to trust the Lord’s providential care. We are called to walk in faith, knowing that our steps are not random but ordered by a loving God who is committed to our ultimate good. In times of uncertainty, we can cling to the certainty of His promises, knowing that His hand is guiding us.

In conclusion, Psalm 121:7-8 is a powerful declaration of God’s protective love. It is a source of comfort and strength for believers, a reminder that we are never alone or unprotected. As we navigate the hills and valleys of life, let us hold fast to the assurance that the Lord is our Keeper, now and forever.

May this reflection deepen your faith and bring you closer to the peace and protection promised in God’s Word.

Prayer:

Lord, preserve us from all danger, sickness, and distress. Please help us always know that you protect us and guide our lives. Lead us in paths of righteousness, justice, and peace. May we always give you all the glory because you have been so good to us. Amen.
