We Will Be Raised Like Christ
Scripture: John 6:38-40
(ESV)
38 For I have come
down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me. 39 And this is the will
of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me but raise
it up on the last day. 40 For
this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes
in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”
Devotion:
We have considered the wonderful
truth that Jesus was raised and lives forever to be our advocate with God the Father.
However, we must not forget the resurrection God has promised us mere mortals.
Jesus in this brief passage promises us that we will be raised like him on the “last
day” This is God’s will for us, and it is irrevocable. We have not only been
saved for this life but also for the life to come. It is God’s will that we are
to be raised with Jesus. All believers throughout history have received this
promise.
There is nothing that can stop a true
believer from receiving this promised resurrection. While we are called to be
sinless creatures, God understands our weakened condition as fallen, sinful creatures
and will raise us up regardless of our sins. If we have believed on Jesus as
our Lord and Savior and sought to live lives of obedience to him our future
resurrection is promised us. That is a promise that cannot be broken.
God’s promised resurrection of the
faithful is something that we mere mortals should rejoice in. Our God who is
mighty to save has promised that he will not forget those people who follow him
in this life. He will grant to them eternal life with him in paradise. A place
where there are no more tears or sorrows only praise and worship of the amazing
God who has delivered us from sin and death.
When we die, we go immediately to
heaven, however, we must wait for Jesus ultimate victory over Satan and hell
before we are given our glorified bodies back to live in forever. We will be
like Jesus complete with resurrection bodies. Unlike our current bodies these
will be immortal and perfect bodies. We will no longer suffer various diseases
that plagued us during our earthly life. We cannot possibly comprehend what that
will be like. But we will be changed from our perishable bodies into imperishable
ones. Let us praise God for our future bodies!
Prayer:
Glory to you Holy God, we thank you
for the life we have lived in our mortal bodies. Help us to look forward to our
glorified bodies that we will be clothed in on the last day. Bodies that never
wear out and that never die. Teach us patience with our earthly bodies and their
limitations knowing that you have prepared a new body for us. A body that
shares immortality with you. Glory to God in the highest. Amen.
