A Great Multitude
Revelation 7:9-12
(ESV)
9 After this I
looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every
nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne
and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands,
10 and crying out
with a loud voice, salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to
the Lamb!” 11 And
all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the
four living creatures, and they fell on
their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12 saying, “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and
thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever!
Amen.
Today we look with awe at the great
crowd of the saved people in heaven. I have been writing about the
resurrection. I thought it wise to examine the fruit of our resurrection at the
end of time. This is the time when a great crowed of every nation, tongue, and
tribe will gather to praise God for the wonderful things he has done for us.
I believe that too often we get bogged down in
the messiness of life. Our problems seem to overwhelm us. We get concerned (and
rightly so) about wars, inflation, covid and other illnesses, immigration, and
the day to day troubles of this life. Life can distract us from our good God
and the wonderful things he has prepared for us. There is a time and place for
such concerns, but we must remember that our God is a great God beyond all our
imaginings. The wonders he has prepared for us once we shake off this mortal life
are beyond our wildest imagining.
In today’s scripture passage the
Apostle John during his exile on the island of Patmos has a vision of what will
be when we are resurrected from the dead. As wonderful as it is we must realize
that John is limited by language. The scene set before him is too magnificent for words. We, however, can catch a glimpse into the heavenly throne room. We
see multitudes of the redeemed from all over the world. Angels are everywhere
directing worship to the one who sits on the throne.
The sound of praises to our God must
be deafening. Such a great crowd worshiping in unison. Making all of heaven
resound with their praise and worship. God has been so good to us that even our
praise doesn’t do justice to God’s majesty and power. We praise God in awe of his
wonderful love for us. Let us try to praise him as he deserves.
Prayer:
Glory to you almighty God. You are
worthy of all our beings in worship because of your great gifts to us. Let us
kneel before you today and seek the right words to praise you for your great
goodness to us. Hear us Lord as we seek the right words to describe your majesty
and your glory. Help us to pray as you deserve to be praised. Let us offer our
whole bodies as a sacrifice to you. Thank you for all you have done for us. Amen
