Jesus Redeemed Us

Scripture: Romans 3:25 (NLT)

For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past, demonstrating the security of His righteousness.

Devotion:

Romans 3:25 is a profound verse that encapsulates the essence of God's plan for salvation and His righteous character. The Apostle Paul, in his letter to the Romans, elaborates on the necessity and significance of Christ’s sacrificial death. This verse is a cornerstone of Christian faith, revealing the depth of God’s love and the just nature of His forgiveness.

The term 'sacrifice of atonement' refers to the Old Testament practice of offering sacrifices to atone for sins. In the context of Romans 3:25, Paul describes Jesus as the ultimate atoning sacrifice. Unlike the repeated animal sacrifices of the Old Covenant, Jesus’ sacrifice was once for all. His shed blood signifies a new covenant, a new agreement between God and humanity, where forgiveness and reconciliation with God are possible through faith in Christ.

Paul emphasizes that this atonement is received by faith. We are justified not through human effort or adherence to the law but through faith in Jesus Christ. This underscores God's grace and unmerited favor, a profound act of divine grace that overwhelms us with the love of God. By trusting in Christ's sacrifice, believers are justified and made right with God.

This act demonstrates God's righteousness in several ways. First, it shows His justice, as sin is not overlooked but dealt with decisively through the sacrifice of His Son. Second, it highlights His patience and forbearance. God, in His mercy, left the sins committed beforehand unpunished, waiting for the perfect sacrifice of Christ. This act affirms that God is both just, meaning He punishes sin, and the justifier, meaning He declares us righteous, of those who believe in Jesus.

This verse calls us to live in gratitude and humility. Understanding the immense cost of our redemption, the weight of Jesus' sacrifice should inspire a life of thanksgiving and reverence. It also encourages us to share this message of grace with others. Jesus's sacrifice is a demonstration of God's love and righteousness, a message that the world desperately needs.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for presenting Christ as the ultimate sacrifice of atonement. We are in awe of Your righteousness and mercy, shown through the shedding of His blood. Help us to live by faith, fully embracing the grace You have extended to us. May we reflect Your love and righteousness in our lives, and boldly share this message with others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
