A Prayer for Boston

Yesterday, some person or persons unknown thought it would be a good idea to place bombs at the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Today all we can do is pray for the victims and for all the citizens of this nation and world to embrace peace and justice.

O Lord, you are the creator of this world and all the worlds in this universe. We praise you for your obvious overflowing love for all your creatures. While it is true that darkness and evil exist in our world we know that we humans enticed by Satan and his Demons incite evil acts such as yesterday's bombing.

Help us dear God to learn to reject the evil and choose the good. May we learn to celebrate the image of God that exists within each member of this human race. Help us to love our neighbors with that same love you showed on Calvary. A love so strong it can bend even the most evil deed toward the peace and justice that God desires for this universe.

Teach us to reject all cynicism that would cause us to doubt you. Help us to lift up in prayer and in deed the victims of the attack on Boston. Help us to find it in our hearts to show mercy and love toward those responsible even as you forgave those who nailed you to the cross. Help us to be the ones who lift you up God and worship you in spite of our sense of loss and sadness.

Finally be with the families of those who were killed and injured. Bring your people to surround them with the love of Jesus. Show these people that you really do care what happens on your earth by the presence and love of your people. Bring peace and justice to Boston. Bring hope and courage to Boston. Hold all those affected by this tragedy in the palm of your strong and steady hand.

In Jesus name, Amen.
